The developers behind mixed-use retail and office space Hershey Towne Square plan to open a farmers market in the old post office building behind the development.
Wormleysburg-based RVG Management & Development Co. has started work on Graystone Fresh Market at the location, a food court and farmers market slated for opening this fall.
RVG opened the $25 million development in 2018. Its tenants include an Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, Primanti Bros and Valley Real Estate. The site of the future Graystone Fresh Market was part of the parcel RVG purchased in 2016.
Located at 121 Towne Square Drive, the building was built in 1936 as a slaughterhouse and soap factory and was later converted to a post office, said Steve Dayton, co-owner of RVG.
RVG intends to fill the first floor of the building with 45 vendors with a focus on local, home-grown products.
“We are talking to produce suppliers that grow their own goods and bring their produce to sell,” said Dayton. “We believe that we will have those types of providers in the space.”
The space will also feature a food court, which Dayton says will have a wide range of stands from Greek to Korean.
The four-story building’s top two floors will feature space for commercial use. RVG has yet to announce any tenants for the building, but Dayton said that RVG is currently in talks with a number of vendors.
“The reason they want to be here is that it’s Hershey, PA, and what we created upfront made a downtown that didn’t exist anymore,” he said. “Our plan was to create a nucleus of activity (at Hershey Towne Square) and now we are expanding on that with the market and other commercial users that will take up the space.”
